BiographyAbout Leah
Leah Fox, LMSW is a psychotherapist who works with children, adolescents, couples, families and groups. She specializes in complex trauma from a place of hope, curiosity and resilience. In addition to her expertise in trauma focused treatment, Leah works with a variety of other issues and concerns including but not limited to: anxiety, adolescent struggles, childhood transitions/difficulties, depression, shame, low self-esteem, insomnia, relationship problems, boundary issues, substance abuse, personality disorders, self-harming, eating disorders and chronic pain issues. Leah works from attachment-based and psychodynamic lenses, while integrating approaches such as, mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. She uses sensorimotor processes to facilitate trauma integration resulting in an increase in well-being. Sensorimotor processes support individuals in shifting neurological patterns through targeting the body’s habits of movement, posture, and emotional dysregulation. Leah also has specialized training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), a powerful healing approach to the treatment of traumas both large and small. Frequently, past traumas are at the root of present struggles, and by addressing them with targeted trauma treatment, current difficulties may be resolved. Leah’s goal is to create trusting therapeutic relationships that help individuals create positive shifts in their lives. She is a certified mindfulness instructor who defines mindfulness as “noticing what is happening right now,” creating the space to make positive change in one’s life. Leah supports individuals to bring compassionate awareness to their experiences, so that they can break patterns which no longer serve them. She works from a place of non-judgmental discernment, which means encouraging individuals not to judge their behaviors, but rather to openly notice their impact, cultivate increased self-compassion, and from this place of self-love move towards greater harmony in their lives. Leah received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Childhood Development and Education (magna cum laude) from New York University, and her Master's Degree in Social Work (summa cum laude) from Colorado State University. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in New York State and a Certified Mindfulness Instructor.
