For TeensThis message is for teens who are thinking about beginning therapy.
Being a teen is tough! It is a time full of pressures such as school pressures, peer pressures, college pressures and parental pressures. My name is Alison Varianides. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the Founder of Westchester Psychotherapy which specializes in working with adolescents with a variety of issues. Maybe you are reading my website because your parents or teacher suggested that you would benefit from speaking with a therapist. You might be here because you could use someone to talk to without feeling judged or misunderstood. Perhaps you feel alone and don’t know where to turn. You may often fight with your parents and feel you can’t communicate with them. Perhaps you can't sleep and feel like you just don’t want to do anything anymore. Maybe you notice yourself feeling anxious and nervous most of the time. You might be being left out by your friends or are being bullied. Maybe you suffered a recent loss such as a break up with a girlfriend or boyfriend, your parents divorcing or a recent family member passing away. Maybe you have been experimenting with drugs or alcohol and are not sure how to stop. By coming and meeting with a therapist at Westchester Psychotherapy, you will be listened to without judgment. In the past, teens have described the Adolescent Therapists at Westchester Psychotherapy as “cool, funny, down to earth, supportive, nice, good listeners and easy to get along with.” Some of the issues we work on with teens include:
If you give us the chance to get to know you, we bet you will be happy that you came to the first session. It's normal to be nervous at first, but hopefully, after only a short while, you will learn to trust your therapist and give them the chance to help you learn more about yourself and teach you effective ways of dealing with school, peer and family pressures. You might even have fun! We look forward to meeting and working with you! |
