Evangeline Benitez, LMSW specializes in working with children (as young as 5), adolescents and families. She provides therapeutic support services using a strengths-based, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approach. Evangeline utilizes different therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and solution-focused strategies tailored to treat individual needs. Evangeline has experience working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, problem-solving, relationship issues, social skills, peer conflicts and behavioral challenges. Evangeline helps clients by improving their emotional challenges and developing effective coping skills. Using a client-centered approach, Evangeline strongly believes that people are the experts on their lives and experiences. Her goal is to empower clients to regain a sense of control and satisfaction, and work to overcome their struggles through their own strengths. In her work with children and adolescents, Evangeline approaches sessions with a focus on developing emotional competency, exploring anger triggers and anger management techniques, self-esteem building activities, learning social skills, addressing fears and worries, and improving family relationships. Prior to joining Westchester Psychotherapy Evangeline worked as a school social worker for many years in the NYC public school system. Evangeline gained extensive experience providing individual and group services targeting children’s social-emotional challenges and collaborating with parents by providing them the tools needed to create healthier family dynamics. Evangeline utilizes her invaluable school social work experience to creatively engage and motivate children to explore their thoughts and feelings using a variety of methods including role playing, social stories, art, and play. Evangeline earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from Lehman College and her Master of Social Work degree from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker and Certified School Social Worker in New York State.
