BiographyAbout Mei
Mei Maeda, LMHC, is a psychotherapist with experience in treating adolescents and adults. Mei specializes in anxiety, depression, grief, trauma and complex trauma, as well as life transitions, relational challenges, identity development and self-esteem. Mei’s clinical background includes community-based, school-based, and outpatient mental health settings, where she has provided compassionate, strength-based, client-centered, and trauma-informed care. Mei is committed to building a collaborative therapeutic relationship grounded in cultural humility, helping clients develop insight, healthier coping strategies, and sustainable emotional well-being. She brings a warm, calming, and grounded presence to the therapeutic work, with an emphasis on safety, trust, and attunement. Mei takes a holistic approach to therapy, considering clients within the broader context of their relationships, identities, communities, and lived experiences, while recognizing the importance of the mind-body connection. She provides affirming, intersectional care for clients of diverse identities and experiences, with a particular passion for supporting LGBTQIA+, immigrant, first-generation, and BIPOC communities. Mei integrates relational and psychodynamic approaches with evidence-based modalities including CBT, ACT, DBT, IFS-informed interventions, and Motivational Interviewing. Mei is currently engaged in specialized training and supervision in STAIR-NT (Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation and Narrative Therapy), an evidence-based treatment model for complex trauma and PTSD. Mei holds a BA in Psychology and Dance from Smith College with honors and a MA in Mental Health Counseling from The City College of New York, CUNY. Mei is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of New York.
